Welcome to Zazen, a one-of-a-kind 5-bedroom beachfront villa that sits with the Atlantic Ocean right upon its doorstep, on the eastern shore of Barbados.
Zazen’s architecture is unique, considering its location; echoing the style of a Swiss Chalet in the dramatic sloping of the roof, the 6,000 sq. ft. of interior space makes itself apparent, lending the interior cavernous space inside. The villa great room houses the lounge and kitchen, with the more formal dining area close by. The open plan living space of the villa is the social hub, giving the shared space a unique dynamic. The décor is decidedly minimalist, taking after its namesake to instill a sense of calm and serenity. The large spaces feature only the essentials; the natural materials, such as stone, wood, glass and steel lend the spaces a bright, fresh ambience, an appealing aesthetic unhindered by excess.
Enormous plush sofas sit strategically alongside the windows, facing a widescreen TV, while the breakfast bar conceals the fully equipped kitchen, backed by a dramatic wall of marble. A separate dining area sits just beyond the beautiful African mahogany doors, in the event that al fresco dining is called for on a whim. A firepit and barbeque are also on the veranda, perfect for casual cookouts and extending long conversations into the small hours of the night.
Step beyond the shade of Zazen to the expansive terrace and garden, hemmed in by the picket fence, and marvel at the wonderful view. The villa’s east-facing position gives it the upper hand when it comes to watching beautiful sunrises. There’s no shortage of options when it comes to enjoying your surroundings, from the comfortable day beds on the terrace to the hammock underneath the swaying palms that are dotted around the lawn. The terrace itself surrounds a swimming pool, complete with its own underwater lighting; laze in the cool waters as the sun beams down, or even take a late-night swim and watch the stars appear overhead.
Sitting beneath the apex of the roof on the upper floor, the master suite is massive and almost self-contained; a luxurious king size bed at its center, the suite also contains a spacious en-suite, wet bar, mini home theatre, walk-in closet, an office space and access to the balcony, where a day bed and beautiful hot tub lie in wait, a secluded slice of luxury overlooking the terrace, and the beach and sea in the distance. The second and third rooms feature luxurious beds and bedding of their own, as well as en-suite bathrooms for added privacy and comfort. The remaining bedrooms contain luxurious double beds accessing the guest bathroom. Irresistibly soft and plush, sink into the bliss of the palatial beds at the end of each day and fall into effortless sleep, with the calming ambience of the ocean in the background.

Overlooking the Atlantic side of the island of Barbados, the east coast is rather less populated in comparison the west; less traffic, less noise and less stress. For those who are craving a getaway from the humdrum and bustle of everyday life, Zazen fits the bill. Unwind and relax in the peace and comfort of the villa, savouring the fact that’s position is removed from the main thoroughfares of tourist routes; the peace and serenity it offers is unmatched elsewhere on the island. Though Cattlewash Beach is unsuitable for swimming due to strong currents, the beach is still beautiful to walk along.
Should you decide to venture out from the refuge of the villa, Barbados is an island that holds much more than meets the eye. Bridgetown, the island’s capital, is the first choice for retail therapy, with a plethora of shops, restaurants, boutiques, spas and much more. A multitude of golf courses are also within easy reach. Thanks to the unique land formation of Barbados, there’s plenty of natural wonders on display, like Harrison’s Cave, an underground limestone cavern, or Barbados Wildlife Reserve, which allows visitors to stroll through the land natural habitat of these exotic indigenous creatures.

Unavailable Wow Zazen is such a special villa as is Cattle Wash.. We've been visitors to Barbados for many years on the west coast but Zazen has shown us a whole other peaceful private side to the island. Our staff were wonderful & a great asset to the home. We will return.
